# Settings

Settings holds the things you set once and rarely touch again: your name and photo, your loan details, your reminders, and your backups.

Read the [Restart Setup](#restart-setup-erases-everything) section before you go near that button.

## Your profile

The first block shows your name and your current balance.

* Tap to edit your name. The sheet asks "How should we address you?" Whatever you enter becomes the greeting on [Home](/home.md).
* Tap the photo to open **Profile Photo**, where you can **Choose Photo** from your library or **Remove Photo** to go back to the default. Your photo is stored on your iPhone.

## Loan Details

**Loan Details** opens a screen titled **Setup Loan Details**. What you can do there depends on which path you set up with.

### If you set up a new mortgage

Your **Loan Amount**, **Interest Rate** and **Loan Term** are editable. Change what you need and tap **Save**. Save stays greyed out until you have actually changed something and the new figures pass validation. Anything that does not add up appears under an **Issues** heading, so you know what to fix.

### If you set up an existing mortgage

Everything is read-only, and the screen says so: loan details are protected to preserve calculation accuracy. Your setup captured a real point in time, with your balance, your principal and your interest reconciled against each other. Editing one figure afterwards would quietly invalidate every projection built on it.

There is a **Help** section on the same screen showing where each figure appears on a mortgage statement.

## Notifications

The two rows here do different jobs.

### Smart Reminders

This is the one that nudges you to make an extra payment.

* **Default Monthly Reminders.** Turn it on and pick which day of the month you want the reminder.
* **Custom Occasion Reminders.** Three separate reminders for the moments when spare money actually shows up: **Tax Refund**, **Work Bonus** and **Gift Money**. Each has its own switch, a month to fire in, and how often to repeat.

Set these to the months your money actually arrives. A reminder in the month your bonus lands is worth more than twelve generic ones.

Every change saves as you make it.

### App Notifications

This screen handles iOS permission and the notification types themselves.

* **Send Test Notification** confirms everything is working. If you have every type switched off, this block is replaced by a note asking you to turn one on first.
* **Open Settings** takes you to the iPhone Settings app.

The types worth knowing about:

* **Re-engagement Reminders.** A nudge if you have not opened the app in a while.
* **Monthly Motivation.** A few times a month, on the 5th, 15th and 28th. The wording never repeats within a run.
* **Payoff Recap.** A one-off note when your payoff date moves. Tapping it opens the [Progress](/progress.md) tab.
* **Year in Payoff.** Arrives on the morning of December 31 to tell you your year in review is ready, and opens it directly.

If you declined the iOS permission earlier, this screen tells you so and gives you a button to open iPhone Settings, along with the exact path to follow.

## Data and Privacy

Your loan data lives on this iPhone. Back up a copy so you always have your own record.

### Back up my data

Saves a file containing your mortgage, your extra payments and your progress. Once you have made one, a quiet line shows the date of your last backup. The app will not nag you about it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The backup file is not encrypted. Anyone you send it to can read your mortgage details and your name. Keep it somewhere private.
{% endhint %}

### Restore from a backup

Pick a backup file and the app replaces what is on this iPhone: your mortgage, your extra payments, your milestones and your reminder settings.

Before it does, it saves a copy of your current data so you can change your mind. Your profile photo is not part of a backup and stays as it is.

### Put my old data back

This row appears only while that safety copy still exists on your iPhone, and it undoes your last restore. It can disappear on its own if your iPhone clears its temporary storage, so if you want to reverse a restore, do it soon rather than later.

### Export Report

Produces a consolidated report of your payment schedule, as PDF or CSV.

1. Pick your format and tap **Next**.
2. Read the **Privacy Notice**. The report contains sensitive financial information, so keep it somewhere safe and do not share it publicly. Tap **I Understand & Export**.
3. When it is done, choose **Share**, **Save to Files** or **Email**.

If the export fails, the screen lists the likely causes and offers **Try Again** or **Contact Support**.

The same flow runs from the export button on the [Schedule](/schedule.md) tab.

## Manage Subscription

Opens a screen titled **Subscription** showing your current status and what to do about it.

* **Manage in App Store** takes you to Apple's controls for changing plan, updating payment or canceling. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside the app.
* **Restore Purchases** checks your Apple ID for a previous purchase and restores it. Use this after getting a new iPhone, or if the app ever stops recognizing that you have paid.
* Links to **Contact Support**, the **PayOff Pro Website**, **Terms of Service** and **Privacy Policy**.

If you tap to cancel, the app explains that cancellation happens in your App Store account settings, and points you there.

## Support

* **Help & FAQ** opens the in-app help. It has a search box and five categories: Getting Started, Understanding Your Numbers, Payments and Schedule, Data and Privacy, and Troubleshooting. There are also short **Quick Tips** and **Pro Guide** sections.
* **Contact Support** opens a form. Pick an issue type, describe what is happening in at least ten characters, and choose whether to include **Device Information** and **Basic Loan Details**, both optional. Tap **Send Email**. If Mail is not set up on your iPhone, the app copies your message to the clipboard so you can paste it wherever you send mail from.
* **About PayOff Pro** shows your version number and why the app exists. It is worth reading once.

## Experience and Guidance

Both of these switches are on by default.

* **Helpful Tips.** Occasional suggestions at the top of [Home](/home.md).
* **Quick Hints.** The short pointers that appear over cards on Home as you explore.

Turn either off once you know your way around.

## Restart Setup erases everything

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Restart Setup permanently deletes your data. Immediately. There is no undo.**

The moment you confirm, the app erases:

* your loan,
* every extra payment you have ever logged,
* all of your milestone progress,
* all of your custom goals,
* and your entire payment history.

This happens **before** the new setup begins, not after you finish it. Abandoning setup halfway does not bring anything back. The app's own confirmation message suggests your data is held until the new setup completes. Do not rely on that.

**Back up your data first.** Use **Back up my data** above, confirm the backup file exists, and only then tap Restart.
{% endhint %}

Restart Setup exists for one real situation: you set up on the wrong path, or with figures so wrong that correcting them is not possible. It is not a refresh button.

If you only need to change your loan amount, rate or term on a new mortgage, use [Loan Details](#loan-details) instead. Nothing is deleted there.

With Settings sorted, the day-to-day work happens on the [Schedule](/schedule.md) tab, where you log the payments that move your date.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://guide.mypayoffpro.com/settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
